Tried this charger for two weeks while hiking. The device would work when facing the sun directly during the middle of the day but even a slight shadow from a limb would cause it to discharge rather than charge the phone. It may work well in the west but is impractical for a long distance backpacker in the forest even with no leaves in the fall.

This solar charger is really nice and it works great! They could stand to update some of the plugs. There isn't one that will fit my newer Nextel phone but I was able to charge my ipod mini using my ipod cable plugging it right into the USB port on the solar panel. This is really well made and you won't be sorry if you buy this. When all else fails (like the power grid) you will be damn glad you have this. A++

There was no info about this product saying what kind of devices it will and will not work on. I have an iPhone 4 and it does NOT work with it. I'm guessing it will not work with any Apple products. I had high hopes of being able to have my iPhone work on a recent camping trip, but it didn't work for me. Also I requested "expedited" shipping so I would get it before my trip, and it took two days for them to put a piece of foam on either side of the solar panel and stick it in a box to be shipped. Then it was sent "priority mail" which is no faster than regular mail. Needless to say I didn't get it before my trip, and it didn't matter anyway.
In short, don't buy for any Apple product, and don't request express shipping. Maybe you'll be more satisfied than I.
PS. I would have given 0 stars, but that was not an option.
